June Julep box

Posted by yoshi2560 at 11:01 PM Labels: Julep, Pink, purple, review, Song of the Day, Swatch
So remember when I said that you could get a Julep box for a penny? Well I got my box! In it was two nail polishes and a foot creme.  Here's my review/swatches!  I got the box when it was late and I couldn't wait to open it, so the first pictures are all from around 2 in the morning, so I apologize for the lighting.  Warning: this post is quite picture heavy.

My box came a little bit battered, but from what we know about the postal service, this is to be expected.  It was just a plain black cardboard box with the Julep logo on the side.

When I opened the box, this is what I found, there were two slips of paper inside.  One was the information about being a Julep Maven (the monthly box subscription) and the other was about what I was receiving this month (two polishes and one foot creme).  I chose the American Beauty set for this month.

The packaging was actually quite cute. There was a pink paper bag with two toe separators on top, wrapped with a black ribbon and the box was filled in with all the little black paper worms.

Here is the pink paper bag that I pulled out of the package
The Pedi Creme and the wrapped Julep polishes (sorry about the bluriness, my camera was just not wanting to work with me)
The unwrapped polishes.  On the left we have Eva and on the right we have Renee.

I also did the swatches/review for the two colors after the break!

Eva is first.  Eva is a berry pink creme with a small amount of a blue undertone. This color is so vibrant and rich in person, and that didn't capture on camera as much as I would like it to.  The last picture is pretty good though.  It took two coats for full opacity.  There was the tiniest trace of visible nail line, but you can't tell as much in the pictures. The formula was great, it was very smooth and not at all chunky.  The brush was not as wide as I prefer, but it still did the job just fine.

In as much sunlight as I could get today.  The middle and ring fingers are the most color accurate for natural lighting, and the first and pinky are more of what the color looks like in the shade.

Shade

The most color accurate picture I was able to get.

 Pro's:
  • Look at that color and tell me it is not berry perfection.
  • The color is just so multidimensional!
  • Incredible formula
  • Very pigmented, only a couple coats for full opacity
Con's:
  • I want a HUGE bottle of this color.
Eva gets an A+!!

Next is Renee.  She is a lavender purple with more of a grey undertone.  I absolutely adore this color, and the formula was pretty damn good.  Again, it took me two thin coats for full opacity, but I'm sure that one thicker coat would do the trick perfectly.  The brush was the same in this one as it was in Eva, but I'm not complaining.  I'm wearing this as a full mani right now, with a little something extra on top ;)

Shade with flash.  This is much more blue and less purple than in reality.

Pro's:
  • The color.  Obviously.
  • Also applied like butter.
  • Super pigmented!
Con's:
  • The color isn't terribly unique, but it was really well done.
Renee gets an A!

The foot creme is good, but it's not great.  It has an herbal kind of scent to it, which smells quite good, and the creme is white, and is smooth but thicker than normal body lotion.  I've been using it every night (like the directions recommend) and while my feet definitely feel a little softer, there are still some rough spots between my toes that don't seem like they've been changed at all.  While I will still continue to use it, the creme isn't on the top of my list.
